Student Art Show
The Kickapoo Nation School in Powhattan, Kansas has been honored to have their students’ art shown at the University of Kansas’s Lied Center.
The pieces ranged from statement pieces, to artistic clocks, and different collage pieces that were made from predominately hand altered paper the students created. Superintendent Turner encouraged the art program from its beginning. She was paramount in having one of the student’s work professionally mounted and framed to be hung in the school commons area. The program continues to provide a dual purpose, in that it instills a pride in the student’s artistic abilities and pride in their Native culture.
